Close encounters of the solid food kind

Today was attempt #1 with "solid" food. I'm not sure how sweet potato that was liquified in a blender counts as solid food, but it's certainly expanding his palate.

We went to the pulmonologist yesterday for his last RSV shot. He's up to 11 lbs 14 oz! :)

10 Month Pictures

The Easter Bunny stopped by today. Hopefully Amy will flesh out this blog entry with slightly more info than this.

Please, don't wake the baby

So I've mentioned that Daniel doesn't nap very often. That's still true, but most days we can now get him to take about an hour nap in the mid-morning. Today, though, that wasn't going well. First, some telemarketer called 5 minutes after he had drifted off. Then, a while later, he started to doze off again in his swing, but something on the swing moved or got bumped and jingled, which woke him up. After that, he was wide awake and getting cranky fast. All our other bases were covered (diaper, food, etc), so we knew he was tired. We decided to head out to run some errands, figuring that he would fall asleep in the car.

Success! About 5 minutes after leaving, Daniel was out. We went by the post office. Daniel slept. We went to BJ's. Daniel slept.

At the time, we had Daniel in "cocoon mode" in his stroller. The infant seat snaps into the stroller and they both have canopies. If you put them both down, they meet up and completely cover the baby. There is a little window in the top so the person pushing the stroller can see in, but that's it. I thought this would be a good way to provide a little more sound isolation and keep people from stopping us every 10 feet (which happens sometimes).

Now let me say that I don't mind at all people who look at him, ask how old he is, say how cute he is, etc. Sometimes if I'm in a hurry, I don't want to talk to everyone in the store, but I know that they're trying to be nice, and I do have an extremely cute baby. :)

Well, he had only been out for about 30 minutes when a woman approached us in BJ's. She came right up to the stroller and YELLED, "Oooohhhh! Let me peek at your baby!"

I cringed inwardly and politely told her he was sleeping. (I had just checked him through the window about 10 seconds before she came over.)

She put her face up to the tiny gap between the 2 canopies and announced, "No, he's wide awake!"

Hmmmm, I wonder why???? I said, "Well, he was sleeping," as politely as I could, and kept walking.

The moral of the story....if the baby is completely covered, there's probably a good reason for it. Please don't come over and demand to see the baby. And especially don't yell 12 inches from them!

March for Babies

You've probably heard of the March of Dimes. I had, but I didn't really know very much about them until this past year. Basically, they fund research on premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality. Their goal is to prevent these things and find new treatments for the complications that these babies face. Obviously this is something that is very important to us.

They have a walk every year to raise money and awareness. This year, Paul and I are participating in the Tampa area walk on April 26th. We've donated before, but hopefully this way we can raise more than we could personally donate. And hey, if nothing else, we can sure use the exercise. :)

If you'd like to sponsor us, you can go here. I'm listed too, but donations under Paul's name should be eligible for a company match from his employer.

We'd also love company, so sign up and join our team if you'd like to come along! :)
